Evil

In my English class we have been reading Lord of the Flies by William Golding. Golding put allegorical statements about human's evil nature. This is what I think. I think that when being born into this world we are not evil. I am a christian so I know that when God created us he saw that we were good. Genesis chapter one verse 31 says "God saw everything that he had made, and indeed, it was very good". Which includes us. Humankind. Sin came into this world when Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit. And ever since that we have sinned. I don't think evil is the right word. When I hear the word evil, I think of people like Hitler or Stalin or the Devil himself. We humans are flawed through our mistakes. But we aren't evil. The definition of evil is: The quality of being morally bad or wrong; wickedness. The definition of flawed is: an imperfection or weakness and especially one that detracts from the whole or hinders effectiveness. So what I interpreted from those definitions is that we can't help being flawed, but we can choose to act evil or not. Society and the environment can corrupt you, but that isn't always the case. You can choose who your with and what you do. But be warned, the actions of others can change who you are. Will you be a savage hunter under Jack? Or will you try to keep peace like Simon?
